At WellCare, we take great pride in celebrating the diversity of our members and our associates.
During National Hispanic Heritage Month (celebrated Sept. 15 to Oct. 15), we recognize the culture, traditions, history and important contributions made by Hispanic and Latino Americans. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly 60 million people, or 18% of the U.S. population, identifies as Hispanic or Latino in origin – the largest minority in the United States. The notion of giving back to the communities WellCare serves is intrinsically embedded in the very fabric of our company. Our associates are not only encouraged to volunteer, but the company fosters that spirit by supporting their contributions and creating opportunities to give back through the WellCare Associate Volunteer Efforts (WAVE) program.
A fixture of WellCare’s culture, WAVE helps our associates to gain an even deeper appreciation of the needs and critical issues our members face and contribute to the communities in which they live. At the same time, WellCare recognizes that participating in volunteer opportunities will also enrich and inspire the lives of our associates and connect them to others. April marks a decade of service for the Care1st Avondale Resource Center.
Ten years ago, Avondale had a limited human services system. If left this way, it could not support its residents. Care1st Health Plan Arizona (Care1st) knew there was a need for these types of services in this underserved area. With this in mind, we sought to find a way to help not only our members, but the community as a whole.

February is Early Childhood Education Awareness Month, an ideal time to reflect on what’s best for our children and how to kick-start healthy development from a young age. It’s National Health Center Week, a time to recognize and raise awareness for our nation’s community health centers.
Each year, community health centers serve more than 27 million Americans and report approximately 104 million visits annually—and the numbers continue to rise.
What makes these centers such a growing, critical resource? Continue reading “Raising Awareness for Our Nation’s Community Health Centers”
WellCare is a mission-driven organization where our associates believe in giving back to the communities where we live and serve.
However, it’s the dedication of our more than 9,000 associates that make WellCare’s community efforts unique. Approximately 75 percent of our associates participate in WellCare Associate Volunteer Efforts (WAVE) each year—more than double the national average. But equally as significant, many of our associates serve multiple times throughout the year. Volunteerism is embedded in our culture and serves as a beacon for how our associates choose to live our mission and our values. Each year, WellCare releases its Annual Review, a compilation of company updates and activities from the previous year. Our 2017 theme is “This is WellCare,” which embodies who we are and why we do what we do for our members, providers, government partners, communities and associates.
WellCare’s journey began in 1985. While our company has grown, our mission remains the same: to help our members live better, healthier lives. Much of this growth is due to the tireless dedication of our nearly 9,000 associates who put our values – Partnership, Integrity, Accountability and One Team – into action every day. We’ve built a culture that cares about results and how those results are achieved. Continue reading “Introducing WellCare’s 2017 Annual Review”

When I learned that WellCare has been named a finalist for the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s 2017 Corporate Philanthropy Awards, I was both humbled and thrilled. A relative newcomer to the Tampa area – I got here a little over a year ago – this nomination is a first for me since joining the organization.
WellCare joins a short but impressive list of Tampa Bay Area nominees in the category of employing 500 or more. Nominees are bound by a common thread, a dedication to making our communities better. Continue reading “Making a Difference in the Communities We Serve”
