Celebrating WellCare’s Recognition from The Civic 50

By Rhonda Mims

For the second year, WellCare was named to The Civic 50 by Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service. The Civic 50 is an initiative that honors the nation’s top community-minded companies for superior corporate citizenship.

This recognition is both an honor and a testament to WellCare’s strong mission to serve. We’ve created a corporate culture that places great emphasis on community investment, associate engagement and volunteerism as well as social public policy and overall impact. These categories are the same areas measured by this annual survey, which ranked WellCare among the nation’s most influential companies.

What are some of the reasons WellCare is being recognized as one of the top, civic-minded companies in the nation?

  • We take care of the community. Last year, more than 6,200 WellCare associates, along with their families and friends, volunteered nearly 24,000 service hours. Additionally, our first-ever National Volunteer Month this April brought together 3,700 WellCare associates who volunteered 11,000 hours with 113 nonprofit organizations.
  • We take care of each other. This year, WellCare launched our volunteer time off (VTO) program, which provides eight hours of optional VTO to engage with approved nonprofits during the workweek.
  • We take care of our members. Each year, our Center for Community Impact connects more than 100,000 callers to a database of more than 200,000 social services across the country, including food, housing, transportation, education, employment and more.

I want to thank our associates and leadership for creating a company and culture that is recognized beyond our industry accomplishments and highlighted for our civic achievements.

We’d love to hear how you are giving back to the communities where you live and work. Please take a moment to comment in the section below.
